lookin to buy a cat. converter for my 89 xj...has to be california legal.
trying to save money
any site...?

89? That's RENIX - and it doesn't care. Last few I've put on have been PFP BBChevvy catalytic converters - they're inexpensive, smaller than OEM, and have no trouble passing smog (I live in San Jose.)

Just have the four-bolt flange welded to a stub of pipe after you cut it off of the OEM, or have a stub made with the flange on it so you can take it down easier. Clamp the cat to the pipe stub.

My standard "California Exhaust" here has been a PFP BBChevvy catalytic converter (pick a truck application that has a single cat. You can also use a SBChevvy - it's still going to flow more than it needs to) and a Walker Turbo II muffler ($20-25) - including forking over beer for welding, I have the cat-back done for about a C-note.

I bought one from Kragens recently for my 89,just over $100,also have them at Autozone.

You can get high flow cats in any size from Summit Racing for $90 or less.
