Default When are Longer Brake Lines Required?

How much can you lift an XJ ('87 Pioneer 4.0L) and retain the stock brake lines? I've heard the brackets can be relocated to effectively lengthen them but by how much?

I'm about to replace the brake lines on my Jeep and bought stock replacements from Napa, but it occured to me that when I lift the Jeep I might need to get longer ones. I'll probably lift it 3.5" at the most. Will I be okay with the stock length lines and maybe relocating the brackets when the time comes, or should I get longer ones now?

The relocators that come with most lifts r ok, but personal i would invest in the stainless lines ,if u do a lot of wheeling.http://www.crownperformance.com/cate...ke-Lines/Jeep/

At 3.5 you will be fine. If you look at your front lines they angle were they are still steel and a factory bracket keeps them tight to the body. The relocation bracket allows you to bend the steel line straight and still secure the line to the body. They are cheep so if your worried get them but you wont need them until you get over 4".

Agreed, I got a 3inch lift and 31s and all I had to replace was a front passenger sway bar end link because the original one was rusted and broke during installation lol

Wont they come up short on a 3.5 inch lift if he plans on flexing at all.

I think if you plan on disconnecting the sway bar and flexing your rig out. I installed a RC 4.5 SA lift on my xj and I used the relocation brackets for the fronts before I installed my extended lines. The rear I did not feel comfortable running with the relocation bracket as the brake line was strung tight prior to replacing the line.

During the time I just ran the relocation brackets with the stock front lines and I was afraid to flex it out since the lines got snug just by turning the wheels to one side or another full knock. I installed +6" stainless lines and I am very pleased. I run no sway bars and the front lines are just getting straight when I flex it completely out. I would save your money on buying the stainless lines and go to your local NAPA or industrial supply store like grainger and have them make you brake lines much cheaper. I found this out after I bought and installed my brake lines.

for safe if you have up to a 4.5" lift on short arms you should be ok, but if you have a long arm kit, no matter the lift, new brake lines are required, stainless steel braided are the best.

Should I just get some YJ brake lines to be safe? Those are longer right?

I do want to be able to flex it out, but like I said I'll probably only lift it 3.5" for the time being...

I am running a 5.5" lift with 33" tires. I tried flexing it to the point were my tires bent my fender, but my stock break lines were still pretty good to me. If anything I have steel break lines waiting, but they were from a lifted YJ so they are Hella long.
