Default When does wheel-rot become unsafe?

Again all, another newbie question. I'm of the ilk that if I question it, its more than likely bought the farm but are they any indicators as to when you've pushed your wheels too far? Loose pieces of rust are breaking off on these wheels and Im wondering whether or not they can be trusted. Thoughts on this guys?

Doesn't look good. That rust looks to go pretty deep.

I would suggest the next time you are due for new tires, plan on getting new rims.

I hate to say it, but I would refuse to mount a tire on that wheel in my shop. It's an accident waiting to happen and I wouldn't want my fingerprints on it. The liability is not worth it and I'm supposed to know better than to let something like this get by me. Put a loaded trailer on those and you could be in trouble.

You need a new wheel. I just bought 4 replacements for the 97 for the same reason. Check all 4 wheels. You might want to replace the valve stems as well, for peace of mind if nothing else.

Its best for your own safety to get new tires and wheels Craigslist may have wheels and tires of your choice unless the rims you buy have decent ones already. Id get aluminum myself as those are steel
