it says it up to 97, i have a 99 but dont think it wouldnt change much.

yeah, nothing has changed on those axles. basically they are all the same since they started using them in XJ's

I'm pretty sure that open diffs are better on slick roads, it keeps you from breaking loose with both wheels.
Locked diffs are better on dirt/mud/snow though.

open diffs are better with these conditions when you are sideways on a slope, if they are locked then you will start to walk yourself down the hill
