Wheel Shimmy/ Death Wobble Problem
 

i have a 98 cherokee with a 5" lift on 33' swampers

i recently added a steering box,, steering damper, sway bar end links, adj. track bar and still i have problems with the vehicule shaking after 60k's and up.

If anyone has any advice that would be great/

What kind of shape are your front wheel Unit Bearings, Upper and Lower Balljoints and front axle U-joints in? Also have you re-checked to see that your new tires are balanced correctly (Haven't thrown any weights off while driving it). Did you get a front end alignment done after installing the lift? Any little imperfection in any of these componants is greatly amplified after installing a lift and larger tires to an XJ.

It could be that,,, i know for sure one or both of my U joints are gone

I use to have the samething happen to me, then i bought new tires and it never happened again. That was 3 yrs ago. I'm running 31's but i want to go to 33's just saving the money.

Jack your front wheels off the ground and grab sides of each and wiggle and grab top and bottom of each and wiggle. If they wiggle side to side it's most likely wheel bearings since you already swapped out your tierod ends. If they wiggle top to bottom, most likely your ball joints are bad. The bottom ones wear quicker than the tops because more of the weight is on them. Best to know now what all needs replaced since you'll be tearing into change your front U-joints. May as well do it all at one time vs, having to tear your front end apart multiple times.
