wheel question

i just purchased general grabber at2's and cragars for my 95 cherokee country. It just started to make a little noise on the left front wheel only, sounding like thin metal dragging or rubbing. It doesnt slow the vehicle or anything, and it almost sounds as if a rock kicked up into the chrome cap but im not sure. Anyone experience this issue before?

Welcome to the forum.

How loud is it? Squeek or a real dragging sound?

Countrywhip Jan 7, 2010 09:45 AM

its more quiet than loud...really only hear it at slower speeds

VAXJCOUNTRY Jan 7, 2010 09:47 AM

hmm...cyclical or rattle?

Countrywhip Jan 7, 2010 09:48 AM

i dont know if somethings rubbing or not...doesnt feel that way when driving it. seems like a minor issue but im still curious as to what it may be. its almost as if it goes away at faster speeds, and it wasnt like this 2 days ago when i first got them

your rock idea might be correct then. Check the lugs?

While you got the wheel off the ground, put a hand at 9 and 3 (imagine a clock) and see if you can wiggle it any. Also try at 6 and 12. There should be no slop. If you can, that's a bearing. If it's solid, it's something else.

shale and traction material

I have had something similar occur twice this season. I removed the wheel to find the culprit. I small piece of shale was lodged near my outside brake shoe on the driver side. I flicked it out with a narrow screwdriver. The sound varied as I drove... sometimes it disappeared... and then came back.. loud, soft...

This happened more often after I put my lift on and those black rockcrawler rims.

go figure.. good luck!

it hasnt caused you any trouble other than the sound though right?
