which wheel bearing?
 

i am going to do the wj brake swap on my cherokee and i am trying to get all the parts together before hand so that it can be done quickly. i have the bearing spacers, but i am confused on which wheel bearing to get. i have been doing a lot of searching but can't find anything definitive. thanks in advance.

1989 d30 CAD, it was free.

I thought you were speaking of the rearend,not familar with the front end swap. But it should be sealed hubs I would think.

i know its a sealed bearing/hub assembly. through my research i have that there are differences through the years. i thought they were all the same. i am also not sure if the splines on the axle changed or not.

splines never changed. I know the hub assembly changed mid year 99 when they switched to composite rotors. guess it depends on what rotors your rollin with. The three mounting bolts and the spline count never changed. I believe the distance was how far the rotor centering thing stuck out.

the rotors will be the ones from the WJ which i believe were all the same from 99-04. i have seen a reference to using the 00-01 hubs, but i have seen others say 91-01? does any body the exact differences between the hub/bearing assememblies?

the difference is where it mates to the axle.
some, like early xj's for instance, have a concave style that seats into the knuckle.

at least, with my jeeps anyways. so, not 100% sure on the wj's. but most likely the same as the tj.

i know the wj bearing is different. in order to keep 5x4.5 bolt pattern, you redrill the rotors and use a xj bearing and a spacer from JKS. i have the spacer, but i need to figure out which bearing to get. the spacer is required to recenter the u-joint and to get rotor spacing correct.

caged, you said the early xj use a different bearing? what do you mean by early? thanks for the help so far.

mayby try www.rockauto.com they have parts for every year make and model cars. if you know what you got you can find the part numbers and pictures of most the stuff. hope this helps?

been there and that is what is causing the confusion. i see different part numbers depending on the year, 91-97, 98-99, 00-01? i remember reading in one of the write-ups i read that the wheel bearings were the same from 91-01. after looking at rock-auto, i see that the bearings did change over the years. after doing some more searching on the web, i think the ones i need are the 00-01 bearings, but would like to confirm it before buying them.

ya dont know what to tell you there, best bet would to be go to your local auto parts store and just buy a few of them and than find the one that works and take the other ones back, almost every auto parts store i know has no problem taking parts back that wernt used.

my experience is with mostly with my 89 and 90 xj.
i did replace hubs on a 95, and i do believe they were the same as mine.

however, i'm not 100% sure on 97+ xj's, but do believe they would be the same as my 97 and 99 tj's, which are different.
