What's up with Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil?

UOA's for me were showing me pushing my limits with the best oils at about 8k miles. Sure, oil can last a long time these days, but contaminants are still contaminants, and oil filters are still also limited capacity. I don't spam the UOA's anymore and just use PYB 5w30 on a 5k mile OCI. Multiples of 5k are very easy to remember/recognize on the odometer and work out to about 3 oil changes per year for me which also coincide very nicely with tire-swap time (winter/3-season tires). I've found my perfect system.

Every February, (is when I have time). Usually 10-12K. Doesn't get too cold here so Castroil straight 30W. Straight W doesn't need to do any chemical "magic", just is what it is. No bike, mower, generator, water pump, roto-tiller, chipper, or anything here has had a rod or piston issue since I went to that last century. One Jeep near 300K has had that the last 150K and runs strong and sweet. I stopped using it on drill bits and cutting metal, to slippery. I use atf now for that. Apologies if someone doesn't like that. Works supper for me and I'm not changing a thing.

I still use straight 30 as cutting oil but I may have to try using ATF now.

I doubt ATF is ideal, but it's handy! (and seems to work OK) I guess there is very complicated science to cutting oil. Industrial stuff, production lines, it's heat carrying, (higher flow takes away more heat), viscosity for that flow, and what bite you get for thousands of widgets of a hundred different kinds. Big $ in getting that one optimized!
