Breather/Vent for the differential. Let's pressure out as the air inside gets hot and expands (otherwise the pressure would cause leaks and/or blow oil out through the axle seals, etc.)

^^ X2 ^^ It's attached high on the firewall so water doesn't get in when you go wading. LOL!
