What transmissioni do I have???
 

Hey guys and gals,

I recently bought a 2.5l Automatic 1984 Cherokee and am trying to find out what transmission it has. Jeep no longer can get me a build sheet because of the age of my ride so I was hoping someone could shed some light on my situation. I have read about the different tranny's put into these rigs, but am still fogged about which one mine has.

Here is what I know, when driving (just by listening) the transmission either shifts into 4th gear or 3rd gear with lockup. I just don't know which. Anyone else have an 84 with a known automatic transmission?

EDIT: Sorry about the misspelled title. "Transmissioni" is Italian for transmission. :D

Google tells me it's a Chrysler A904 three-speed.

Thanks, jay sco. I appreciate the quick response. I need to order a filter and gasket for the pan so I needed to find out. Looking forward to working on this thing! Not my first Jeep, but my first XJ.
