I have an 85 4x4 cherokee with the 2.5l, the transmission is a 5sp. What transmisssions did they put in these and how do I tell. It makes weird noises when you let the clutch out to take off. I'm not sure if it's the transmission or the clutch..

NV3550 - 5 speed manual - manufactured by New Venture - used in 00-01 in SE models with 4.0L I6 engines

There is a chance I'm sure, but the Peugeot BA-10 and the AX-15 were primarily used in the 4.0L's while the AX-5 was used in the 2.5L's.

Are the numbers stamped on the transmission? Can a person tell by looking at the transmission what type it is?
