What is the size of drain plug on transfer case
Hi folks,
I plan to change the fluid of transfer case on my 1999 sport I6, AWD, automatic. It seems I need a fairly big allen bit to pull out the plugs. Can some one tell the size of drain and fill plugs? Where I can buy this stuff. Auto parts stores only carry small allen bit.
Thanks.

Assuming yours is the 231:
"NP231 Transfer Case come with 2 different types of fill and drain plugs. One requires a 30mm socket to remove and the other uses a 10mm allen bit. Determine which you will need and remove the fill bolt. "
Mine had a 30mm socket. U must have the allen.

I can only add 1.5 quarts tranny fluid into the transfer case before the fluid overflowing from the fill hole. Does this mean I did not fill the transfer case properly?
By the way, may I use 80W90 gear oil in the front differential instead of 75W90? I happen to have some in stock.
Thanks

Intresting enough, my transfer case only held 1.5 qts when I drained and refilled it yesterday also.
I used 80w90 both my differentials. Dana30/Chy8.25
