2001 4.0L Cherokee Sport
Just put engine back in after rebuild. Everything went together great, except this sensor by the oil filter.
What is it, and where does it go???

I'm not sure what it is but it looks like it should be bolted down somewhere from what I can see from the photo.

The 2000 I just got done putting a new head on, that sensor was located on the block right at where the head joins the block. It was held in with a stud and a nut.

Ok I will attach it to the side of engine block.
It has a black box / computer sensor.

Any idea what it does /senses ?

It's called an Ingnition Coil Capacitor.

Edit: Similar to a Flux Capacitor. What ever you do, don't feed it after midnight.

There are 2 ground ports on the head. I will attach the sensor to the back one.
