What is this part? 2001 Cherokee XJ
Was putting a trailer hitch on my Cherokee today and saw the part pictured (not my actual one) was completely rusted out. Does anyone know what this part is and what it is for? It bolts to the frame.
Thanks!

That would be the rear bump stop. It stops the axle from hitting the jeep when flexed or when bottomed out.

Snapped a bolt replacing mine. Mine were 5/16-18. You could knock the nuts loose (using air tools) and install a nutsert, or drill and tap. I went with the drill and tap method, with all new bolts from ACE Hardware. Black oxide 5/16-18 grade 5. Mightve been grade 8, dont remember. And a little anti-seize. Whichever method you use, wear safety goggles.
The bumpstops you posted are factory. Crown sells them, part #52004297. If the rear bumpstops are rusted out, check the front bumpstops too. Factory front bumpstops are part #52004295.
