depends what you want. automotive paint and clear coat would be best. some have used a rattle can. I'm in the process of painting mine with black bed liner from the body line down.

"trim black" and then clear coat it, if you want it nice and shiny that is.
if you want one of those stupid fancy shines, paint it whatever color, clear coat, sand when dry with 3000 grit, clear coat, sand, clear coat and call it a day. now whenever you get a scratch, sand with 3000 until its flush, a little rubbing compound, then wax

yea the one i'm hopefully to work on and call my own soon needs some paint as in alot of places its just down to regular metal color where paint has either worn off from time or clear coat has flaked off.
i'm wanting to go black and red would be my second choice for color. looking at options for a DIY so i can do it myself. but if need be i do know someone locally who can do autobody painting and has the tools.
does auto paint come in spray cans too?

its all in the prep work... do lots of R&R like removing moulding around windows and such. key locks and door handles. thats what makes a good pint job. i suggest bedliner and then right after it cures use a tractor and implement epoxy paint. itll be tough as stone then!!

the bed liner stuff can just be rolled on right with out any primer right? as for window molding i'd probably just mask it all off real good along with the windows and door locks. and the door trim at bottoms i'd paid same as body color

Rustoleum now makes an automotive line that I've read is pretty tough stuff and not too expensive. Years ago, I painted several work trucks with polyurethane equipment enamel. It was tough as nails and easy to work with.
