Default What to look out for in my XJ?

Hey guys,I warned that the questions would soon follow, I was just curious what I need to be aware of with my new 89 XJ. Ther is issues with the steering column, as it seems to be a little loose. What is the power transmission button on the right of the column, what does it do and when should it be engaged? Thanks guys

You can tighten up your steering box by locating a screw on top of your power steering box, there is another thread on the forum describing if you do a search. And the power trans is just like an overdrive that can be used going up steep hills or during towing. It just shifts your transmissions into a lower gear pretty much.

If the column itself is loose it could be the column internals. My 91 had a similar issue. I pulled the steering wheel off and all the guts out. There are 3 screws inside the column that can loosen up over time (or when a "bigger" person drives the vehicle and uses the steering wheel to pull themselves up and in"

Anyway, I tightened everything up and was good to go. Pretty simple column. I believe they were built by GM (same as S10's, Blazers, etc)

Huh? i don't recall seeing that, guess i should look again. should this be a regular check? adjustment? front end/steering feels tight, just had a safety inspection and passed no problem. what's your thoughts...
