Default What kind of shocks?

So I am on a tight budget. Going to put some $500 into the Jeep I have to make it comfortable on the road for the wife to drive. It has 260,000 miles so am not going to invest a lot of money in this thing. Already have put wayy to much into it as it is.

I can feel everything on the road basically as it is. Every little crack. I know that it would be a good idea to just do everything, shocks, and springs, but again a small budget. So Im thinking I will get shocks all around.
What are some good but cheap shocks? I've been eyeballing Monroe Sensatrac shocks. Total is $180 for all 4.

I'm going to do off-roading, but not a lot of it and nothing major. No lift is on it, and will not be put on it either. Does have 225/75's on it, so a size up from stock. *I have the Laredo 1989 model*

I have also been looking at Gabriel Ultra's from Autozone that total $140.

I've had good luck with the Gabriel loadcarriers i put on my F250, can't speak to shocks for an XJ though as I haven't replaced my cheap no-name lift shocks yet. I was going to look at the Deutsch Tech 8000s that ironrockoffroad sells because they sound like quality shocks at a decent price..

Oh yeah, Im going to be doing that as well, but will be a little later. The tires are old and getting near bald. Going to get some Firestone Destination A/T tires iirc.
But the thing does have 260,000 miles on it, has sat for 1.5yrs before I got it, and sense Dec. 2007 has only traveled 6,000 miles and received 0 maintenance.
I can feel everything on the road, and it isn't just tires. There seems to be zero recover in the suspension. It basically hurts just to drive in my back yard.

Wow, the threads sure do move down the list pretty quick.

Anyways, not really sure what is up. Going to have to get someone to look at it I guess who knows more then I do.
I tried the old suspension trick, bouncing on the vehicle basically and the suspension seemed to be super firm. The thing vehicle would barely move with me bouncing on it. Only the front right would give me some give.
Could the stocks that are on there now just have totally gave way, and basically bottomed out resulting in no give when I was bouncing on the the Jeep?

Jeeps do usually come with pretty good struts - I just replaced mine with the yellow monroe's - they're ok - not the best. I got 155,000 out of the original struts - might be a good idea to replace yours
