Looking at replacing these switches for lights, locker, etc. What kind of switches are they, meaning model number, name, etc? I added the panel after I found it at a local bone yard.

BotakBeng 07-10-2012 01:36 PM

OEM.

BigBear 07-10-2012 01:38 PM

Rear defroster, windshield washer, fog lights.

I figured as much. Looking for like a model number of some sort so I can maybe get some blank ones w/out marking.

Thanks. What I am looking for is, to replace those switches with blank switches with no markings. See how these have a windshield, and a light icon? I want blank ones. So, I am not turning the defroster on to activate my locker. Follow?

Bad photo shop, but you get the idea.

Before and after. By replacing the switches.

The picture is of mine, in my jeep (from a JY as stated).

Ya, I thought about that. But, my OCD will not allow it.

BigBear 07-10-2012 02:09 PM

So you are not using those for what they are then. I gotcha why not just touch it up with a black sharpy or paint marker?

Ya, my Cherokee didn't come with those options. The panel was blank. I picked up that panel at JY off Miliken & 60fwy.

OCD wont allow it. lol!

The older years look like they maybe blank. But, i'd buy new if I have a part number or something.

BigBear 07-10-2012 02:15 PM

Okay what about like rubbing it off with an eraser?

sthon 07-10-2012 02:20 PM

Use some very fine sand paper.

stock95sport(for now) 07-10-2012 02:21 PM

or non acetone nail polish. it'll eat the paint that makes up the markings, but not the plastic of the switch. Dont soak em in it, lol that may eat some plastic.

Good idea as well.

XJ.89.Limited 07-10-2012 04:41 PM

Brake fluid also removes paint from plastic without ruining it. Probably a better idea than non acetone nail polish remover. I say take some old brake fluid, dab a Q-tip in it, and rub the paint off, if your OCD allows. Haha. Just don't let it sit on there for too long or let it hit anything else. Hopefully it would come out fine. If not, paint them to match the rest of the interior, just use the right paint and do a decent job. I doubt you would find some without the little markings on them. Good luck!

A couple of the switches you have will be a pain to get to work correctly. Such as the first one that is for the rear window defroster. That one has a timer that if I am not mistaken only stays on for about 4 or 5 mins. I has a timer in the switch. The second one is for the rear window wiper and sprayer. Which is a two position switch. The first position is wipers on the second position is spray and temp. on. The last one you have pictured will be the easiest to hook up since it's for the factory fog lights. If you don't mind spending a few bucks you can get some switches that look OEM. Here is the link for them. Hope this help you out.

Ill keep the factory light one. Use that for locker. The other two for lights. Or reverse. I don't know.
Again, thanks. You nailed it!

Now those are some great looking switches. And they are even cheaper even though you have to buy the rocker and the switch body separately. The thing I want to know is will they fit in to the stock slots?

I have a life. Some of us have just been here a while :p

Dont really understand why you are wanting to replace those switches. Why not just get a new panel WITHOUT those switches and cut holes for aftermarket switches..

Since you asked, that's 914.3 post a year. 76 a month. :p vs my 127 a year or 10 a month. But, who counting. I know it's all in fun. So, back to my post.

I already bought the panel as posted. 2"x1" is actually big. I just discovered. No biggy. Ill probably just do them where the ash tray is.

xj_maniac_newb 07-11-2012 07:36 PM
