I'm the proud new owner of a 95 XJ, 2wd, Auto. Based on my research of other posts, I'm convinced that I've got the Chrysler 8.25 rear end.

But I'm trying to figure out what gears are in the pumpkin. There are two tags on the cover.
First tag - 35
Second tag - 0485

I'm betting 3.55 gears. Can anyone help?

 

if you have a 4.0 it has 3.55 gears

 

Do you have a stock towpackage?

 

No tow package.

Is there any chance that the rear end has trac lok?

 

Look in your glove box it will tell you if you have it(Well mine told me in the glove box.) or you can pull your diff cover off. lol. I would say you have 3.55 gears with an auto and no tow package. unless someone has changed them. O and the dana 35 has a 2.75ich axle tube with a threaded plug and the 8.25 has a 3" axle tube with a push in drain plug if that helps at all.

 

a 4bannger will most likely have 4.10. If you call the stealership and give them the VIN number they can tell you what you got.

 

Good call I didnt think of the 4cy. Yes that would be 4.10. But if you have a 4.0 its should be 3.55
