What fluid do I use for my transfer case?
I own a 1996 Jeep Cherokee SE 4.0 liter 4x4. If anyone knows what transfer case fluid I need to use, please tell me below. Thanks!

Same as your transmission, the old faithful Dex/Merc. Don't listen to people who tell you to use ATF+4. Chrysler put that info out, but the transmission manufacture says no, use Dex/Merc.

Not Mercon V, and not Dexron VI.

Dex III. But the transfer case isnt real picky. Novak Adapters reports some have switched to 30 weight motor oil with good success. But really most of these cases go 200k plus miles between overhauls with Dex III in them. No need to reinvent the wheel.
You can get this stuff by the gallon at Wal Mart for 12 or 13 dollars. I keep a gallon around in the garage all the time.
