Default What does this switch do?

So I got this Jeep a few weeks ago... first XJ. One thing that I've noticed is this strange unlabeled switch to the right of my steering wheel, next to my rear wiper switch. I've searched around and wasn't able to find anything and it didn't come with the factory manual. I notice nothing when I switch it on and the little light on the switch itself doesn't come on. It is definitely a factory-installed switch, or looks to me as though it is. What does it do? Or, what SHOULD it do?

Edit: It seems to be a two-stage switch. Can flip it up and down, and when it's up you can press it in even further and it then springs back to the "up" position when you release it... if that makes sense.

'96 2-Door, 5 speed, 4 banger, 4x4

Sorry for the crappy image, it's dark outside and I had to use my flashlight for my camera phone flash.

Think you got an older style dash insert. It's for the tranny in a pre 91 model.. an automatic one.

I actually had to go out and check, fog lights and rear def are on the left on 91 and 96

Yeah my rear defrost is on the left side. There are no fog lights and I see no traces of where any had been.

I'm almost certain the only thing I've ever seen there is the tranny mode switch on a Renix with an auto

I'll check it out after my classes tomorrow... hadn't even looked behind it yet to see if it was even connected to any wires. Just looking for an easy answer if there is one while the topic was fresh on my mind.

Looks as though the extended idle switch was installed on the left switch panel next to the rear defrost. Still at a loss.

Activates flux compassator. Careful when you get to 88mph, may turn into a bumpy ride.
