Kris,
You'll need what ever wrenches you need to disconnect everything from your axle. Do you have a Cherokee? If you do go out and see what if will take to remove everything off the axle. Drive shaft, shocks, brake lines, etc. you will not be able to use your impact driver on the drive shaft or brake lines. I don't know from your post whether you are talking about front or rear axle, if it is a front axle you'll need a TRE or Pitman arm puller or a suspension fork and hammer.

Do junk yards mind you cutting axles out? seems like you would destroy a lot of other parts in the process. I only ask because I would rather cut one out then unbolt all that stuff in my garage

The yards I go to don't seem to care. Really all your cutting is the arms those are pretty dime a dozen brake lines also why not just buy new ? Drive line unbolts faster than a cut. And maybe the tie rod needs to be cut. Not really destroying lots. And I'm sorry for being rude. But I didn't clearly state FRONT easy to read easy to comprehend

If you have the choice cut the control arm brackets. Unbolt everything else. If you want a spare track bar just take the mount off the frame rail. If not Undo it at the axle. Drag link. I undid mine at the pitman arm. loosened the nut and hit it with a BFH till it come off. IIRC everything is metric except for the control arm bolts is you choose to remove rather than cut....

I ended up finding an ax 15 and no231 at the jy and got that for less than an axle. I'm picking up a correct geared d30 this weekend for 90$ only bad thing is it's still a disco axle. So I still have to go and get a shaft.
We've just used a battery 18v angle grinder. Cut control arms, shocks, brake lines, track bar, and steering. 20 minutes tops. Most junkyards cycle & crush the cars once all the decent parts are gone. Safety first, gloves & safety goggles & a crap load of blades.
Good luck
