What is it?

Ok guys, so the picture is attached. Its a small hose that comes out of the firewall, then connects to a larger hose. I'm thinking its the vacuum line for the AC/heat (which mine doesn't work, i only get defrost, no air out of the vents for AC or heat).

What is it and any ideas on fixing?

thanks in advance,
jon

in case you can't tell, its split in two

sorry meant to mention that in the original post

That does indeed control your HVAC system hench why you only have defrost. Go to the parts store and find a rubber vacuum thingy that you can attach the two. Should have a rack of them somewhere in the store

Yea, you need to fix that.

yea, its getting hot here, the air would be nice.

just to clarify.....what is a "rubber vacuum thingy"? haha

this stuff?

how does it seal? you put both ends of the split hose into the connector and tape it? heat it up?

any thoughts on how the vacuum tubing seals? do you just tape it in place?

cruiser54 May 3, 2012 06:45 AM

Just snip a little bit of the plastic piping off and take it to the parts store with you. Tell them you want some vacuum hose that will slip on the piping snugly. No tap, no glue. Just spit on each end of the hose and slide it over the piping.

Brush your teeth first or your AC will smell like bad breath.

get a piece of vacuum hose from a parts store, if its the right size, it just fits, no tape needed. Done this repair quite a few times.

LOL. I fixed the sensor ground procedure for ya. Thanks for pointing that out. I usually used that for someone who was already knee-deep in circuit testing so it wasn' real thorough.

fixed and done....i now have air, its not cold, but air is blowing out of the vents.
thanks guys

fixed and I charged the system with refrigerant.

couple questions:

would the split hose cause whatever refrigerant was in there to be discharged?

would not having a cap on the port allow for refrigerant to leak?

944.0 May 3, 2012 04:36 PM

No to both. Your seals are probably dried up allowing a slow leak.

jon71203 May 3, 2012 04:40 PM

how would I go about replacing the seals?

which seals in particular?
