So we crushed the fuel tank in the 96 cherokee coming off a big rock and put a tank from a 98 in the back hatch. The old sending unit had 4 wires and the new one has 5. The pump was easy to figure out. It runs fine but we thought we had the right wires for the gauge level but it only reads 1/4 tank and when we pull the sending unit the guage works fine when the float is moved by hand. As soon as it goes back in the tank it goes back to 1/4 even thought the tank is full.

if it works by hand something is keeping it from moving when its in the tank
