Weird Noise...
There is a weird noise that seems like it is coming from the power steering, because whenever I cut the wheel far to the right or left it creates this whobbling/groaning/whining noise if someone can picture those all in one, lol. Although I'm not sure if it is coming from power steering, because sometimes when braking it starts to happen too. I'm leaning towards power steering though, maybe the pulley?

low on fluid?
|
Low fluid-loose belt- idler pulley ? I would check in that order. My idler shot craps, but it was more of a screech type noise
|
Well my friend had some similar symptoms with his chevy and it ended up that he had it in 4wd like an idiot, so its unlikely, but make sure you're not in 4wd.

It can't be the idler pulley or the belt since they were just replaced and the fluid isn't low. And yea it is in 2WD.
It prob is power steering since everyone is thinking this is a belt or other pulley problem. And since it is when I cut the wheel hard it starts to make the noise and it takes like 5 seconds to go away regardless what I do. If it is power steeling pulley/bearing will anything catastrophic happen? |
I know this is a dead thread, but also no answer.
The power steering is fine. If you are maxing your turns out, the pump in ANY car with hydraulic power steering will make that whining noise. Just stop doing that. Its not meant to be maxed out all the time. Depending on how old the pump is, it may need to be replaced if it is outrageously loud, or continues to make this noise. If the pump was ran low for a period of time, it will destroy your pump. Check the fluid, assess the noise, how loud it is, and if turning becomes more difficult. Check yes to any of those and your pump will need replacing. Hope this helps. |
