Hi, I'm new to the forum and just bought a 2000 XJ I6. When I start driving the Jeep I sometimes hear this odd sound when slowly accelerating, it sounds like its deep in the dash or in the engine bay. I can only describe it as sort of a thick plastic clattering, or maybe marbles bouncing in a tight plastic container.

I have at least one idea as to what it could be, but I wont say it because Im curious what my great descriptions make you all think. It does not sound like spark knock, at least not compared to what I've heard in other motors.

Some times I have a rough idle. This morning it made a sorta clicking sound, like once a second, fairly regular until it warmed up. This is probably related, but I think more info is better than less.

Check the torque converter to flexplate bolts.

Grab the transfer case shifter to see if it's the linkage bushing. That was sloppy on my 99. I noticed a light ticking too and traced it to a part on the firewall. It has a bunch of vacuum lines going to it and I assumed it was emissions related
