Default Which Way Should Oil Filter Point??

Just wondering what way the oil filter should be. On my 92 4.0 its straight up/down, with the gasket on the bottom. Should the adapter be repositioned so that the filter lays horizontal?? Or does it even matter???

I would guess that pointing straight up cant be the best for filtration.

There does not appear to be any sort of a "standard" orientation, pretty much where ever it fits. The ideal would be a remote filter adapter so you could put a drain pan directly under the filter & not dump dirty oil all over the engine and everything. Plus have the old oil pool up in the crossmember so it can drain in your driveway for 3 days afterwards.

92 was vertical. Either way, be sure to use an oil filter with known good anti-drainback valve. The orange ones don't qualify for this just like a bunch of other cheapies. Wix, Mopar, Napa are known to be good.

Ive been running Napa gold filters since Ive had the Jeep. I stay away from Fram like it was the plague.
