water pump heater hose
Any tricks for getting the metal heater hose off the top of the water pump? I can't get it to budge and there's not much room to get anything around it.

Ours was so rusty, didn't even attempt to remove it, figured I'd end up with a broken stub in the water pump.......replaced the pump and used a brass 3/8" NPT X 5/8" hose barb nipple. Cheaper than the factory steel pipe and will never rust.

Awesome response! On my way to get the stuff needed now. Thanks alot.

Another forum member came up with this idea but hey, I can copy with the best of them. LOL Works great and thanks to whomever it was that thought of it.

on mine 98 I used a couple of brass nipples and a elbow didn't have to moved the rubber hose ended with two hose clamps been fine for two years

Either put it in a vice or use a C-clamp, soak it in PB blaster, then slide a wrench over it and slap it with a hammer. worked great for me.
Or in retrospect, I'd much rather have done the solution posted above! |
So, you need to buy a 5/8" length of hose instead of the pipe.
But, what is the size of the coupler you'll use to connect this short hose to the existing heater core coolant hose? 5/8" to _______ ? |
i know this is an old thread but you can get the part new for under $10..

Or, get a pipe for a 97+ 4.0 and put it on. Shorten the heater hose.

.....or u can get the brass nipple today at any hardware store for less than $5 and that puppy won't ever rust.
