Water in the Jeep

I am puzzled? I just got a 98 XJ from the Tulsa area. Every time it rains (almost daily up here) I get a puddle of water in the floor boards. I don't see any bad door seals or leaks around the windows etc. But, it gets wet every time? Is this common? is there a quick fix I don't know about?

do you have a roof rack, it might be laking there mine did it for some times. next time it rains feel the roof and see if its wet, other then that i have no clue

Pop your cowl off (the part between the windsheild and hood). Look around in there, and see if you notice anything off kilter. It wasn't a jeep, but on a car I was working on, it had this same problem. Water appeared out of no-where (and of course never while I, or others, were in the car). Found some rust holes in the air/drip path under the cowl.

advice from holland

i am almost sertain that the air inlet of your heatingsystem is not drainen ore the drain is stuffe with mud ore something
remove whipers (just put a screwdriver between the lip and pull out the lip where the wiper is mounted)
then remove the cover of the wiper motor
at the passengers side is a hole that goes down here the air flows in for your heater
look at the bottom of this hole for leaves ore other materials that dont belong there
you can also look from under the car wher the drain is coming out
hope you know what i mean with the explanation

Thanks, I took the cowl cover off and found NO dirt of debris? I did stuff a hose in there and blasted it and the floor filled with water. Hopefully I dislodged something and it will drain properly again?

Do a search, this is a really, really common problem.

again from holland

there must be a drain seach for it
when there is water in the hole the problem is like i discribed
evertime it rains your car wil be filled with water if you dont clean the drain the problem stays

succes

There is something else under the dash that causes issues, I saw it in another thread discussing water getting inside. If I have time today I'll search for it.

LOL I have this issue in my '01. Park it facing downhill if possible when it rains. Fixes it for mine. If we park it uphill in anything more than a light rain, it will get the water in front just like yours.

We still havent figured out where ours is coming in.

There is a drain for the cowl area. If it gets plugged the water will not drain out from between the inter and outer fender at the firewall area. So it will build up until it drains into the heater, AC ducts and end up on the passenger foot well. After removing the cowl take a probe ( something long and thin ) and try finding the hole. Once you find it use wire ( coat hanger or stiff wire ) and run it through until you can pore water in the cowl area and have it come out under the Cherokee.
