Default Vibration issue question about driving with front shaft

Hello I took off my rear driveshaft because I had a vibration at 30-35MPH and its gone with the rear driveshaft out. My main concern is should I be able to drive with the front drive shaft in 4x4 Full time? I have a 242 and it only allows my to drive if it is in part time. When I put it in full time it revs high and doesnt engage at all? Is this right or what could be wrong?

That's normal. In full-time there's a differential between the front and rear outputs on the t.case. That lets you go around corners without crow-hopping like it does if you drive in part-time on hard surfaces. So when you drive without the rear driveshaft in full-time it's like jacking up one tire of a 2WD (without a limited slip diff) and that tire just spins while the tire on the ground does nothing.

By the way, that's why there is a part-time position on the t.case selector, so if you are spinning tires at one end you can shift into part-time and get the other end to work too.
