Default VERY low temp?

first off i have the 4 banger if that matters, and secondly i have an aftermarket temperature gauge to make up for the idiot lights. just came in from work which is about a 15-20 minute drive and notice the jeep is at around the 100-140 degree mark.....and this is after driving it for a little while. WTF? it was at 200 like its supposed to be when i looked at it about mid way home, but when i get home i see this low reading...what could it be? also been having problems with the jeep cutting out from time to time, could these two things be related? Really dont know what to do, if my DD goes down im out of a job....and those arent easy to find nowadays.

make sure your gauge is properly hooked up first. second, your t-stat could be stuck open which could possibly let your engine run cooler as it would take longer to reach actual running temps. make sure your fan isn't coming on early with a stuck t-stat.

shoot, i guess check your temp sensor/sender first

solved that problem, wires to the temp were grounding off making it read wrong somehow.
