My clutch pedal suddenly became very hard and does not disengage clutch. It can be forced down enough to overcome start interlock but does not disengage clutch.
I am thinking that maybe Slave cylinder has jammed / siezed. Anyone have any suggestions what it could be if not that. I will be pulling the slave off tomorrow to check that but looking for next stage already.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

You may not have a slave cylinder, friend. I don't know about the old ones, but the 2 cherokees I owned that were stick had a slave cylinder/throwout bearing. In other words you have to split the trans from the motor. Worst invention ever.
I see its a 98. I've been into the vodka pretty hard tonight, lol. I guess they got rid of that thing. I replaced it twice in the '93 I just got rid of. What a pain in the ***.
Anyway, I would suspect the master cylinder. maybe that return hole is blocked and your fluid locked up the system. Try pulling the pedal back by hand.

It certainly now seems like a major hydraulic failure. The pedal has gone from being very hard to dropping to the floor. I guess I will have to remove the slave cylinder and have a look before moving on to the master cylinder. I just hope that I can remove the components separately. It is not clear in the manual that I have but I have read somewhere that the master and slave come as a pre-assembled unit.
Any recommendations guys?

you can remove them separately, the system just has to be bled properly when you put it back together. Though with as much trouble as you seem to be having, might be a good idea to replace the whole assembly. I've replaced the whole assembly before, and just the slave before as well. Both are easy enough. less than an hours work. If your pedal hits the floor with out any pressure you've probably leaked all your fluid out.
