Vent fans? Any thoughts on this idea?
I had a thought on those computer fans if you mounted them under the hood vents and had them on a switch it would push more hot air out. I see them at princess auto all the time for about 4 or 5 bucks. I know they might get toasted with rain, but I thought it might be worth a shot?
Just throwing it out there... if you don't like it you can throw it right back.

I saw some today that were all metal so I guess all I'd have to worry about is the rain... hmmm... I may just buy one and spray some water on it before I go through the trouble to install it...

just run the hood vents if you are having an over heat issue this small of fan will have no effect on a car or jeep they are way to small to flow enough air to be helpful

I'd probably run a perma cool 6 or 8" fan mounted on the hood and cover it with a duct vent[they have ones that look like a cowl but i cant find a picture of one] from a hardware store.

yeah some thing like that 3400 cfm might make a difference but it is just a wast of time to rig some thing like this up. if you just put the vent on you will get a low pressure effect that will pull more heat out then adding the fan would. but i would still like to see one rigged up and do a vent only test and then one with the fan to see if it makes a differance

also, i dont think adding a hood vent/fan will help with any overheating issues. I dont think I've come across anyone saying they solved their overheating issue by installing hood vent. If your jeep starts overheating, there is something else that is causing it.

This mod isnt meant to fix an over heating problem. The engine bay of an XJ gets very hot and the air doesnt escape well. The hood vents let the hot air leave the engine bay. This is never a bad thing.

Hood vents do help with cooling as it allows for hot air to be moved out from under the hood instead of making an oven. It really depends on your heating issue and how big of a vent you use. They can help keep it 20 degrees cooler under the hood. The motor it's self may only cool off a little bit. It's main purpose is to allow cool air in while pushing out hot air when traveling at low speeds. Search the internet there are lots of write ups where they've helped.
