Go around and torque them to 35 INCH pounds then go around again and re torque them to 55 INCH pounds. Thats what the computer says at the chrysler dealership I work at anyways.

gasket can get damaged if you over torque.
I just did mine and followed this write up. 7lbs

Be careful.. I hand torqued mine and broke a bolt. Just make them snug, not "OH MY GOD LET'S MAKE THIS THING SO TIGHT IT WON'T COME OFF FOR NEXT 1000 YEARS" tight

Guys, I am not sure if I understand this 100% corectly, but after looking at how those rubber washers and metal inserts and the gasket "interact", it seems that you don't need to apply much force ther, You just need to tie the bolt gently until you feel it "stops", as the stand-off insert hits the head surface.
I've made this diagram, it's easier to draw than write/describe it
see attached.
Also, as I understand it's critical to insert all the new rubber washers to have the "right" clamp (tightness) of the gasket between the cover flange and the head. The washers are included with FEL-PRO gasket, but you have to re-use the metal inserts.

Ive never seen those metal/rubber washers in my life on XJ's, i guess that happens when you buy beaters. But anyways ive never had a problem without them, just make the bolts snug
