Default Valve Cover Gasket

So tomorrow, im replacing the valve cover gasket and was wondering how long are you guys getting out of the cork gaskets or should i use the other high dollar one that Napa has? Also im planning on adjusting the valves, hopefully that'll quiet down the noise coming from in there, probably gonna vacuum up some of the build up of sludge that sits on top of the head too.

Is it a good idea to just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy all the CCV **** and replace it since i hear alot of people breaking it when they remove the VC.

Thanks!!

i won't go with the cork gasket if i were u. go with the Fel-Pro rubber gasket. I say this because it has a tendency to dry up on the edges making it brittle in time and rubber is just stronger than cork.

Go with the rubber one if you can, but if you're tight on cash like I was, just use the cork/rubber gasket with RTV on both sides. That's what I did about 6 months ago, still holding well.

Use the rubber or neoprene gaskets, and don't ever use a gasket AND silicone. One or the other. If you're worried about the gasket moving, use a few little dabs of 3M weatherstrip adhesive in a few places just until you get the cover in place and a few bolts started for alignment. And remember, always install the gaskets dry unless otherwise noted by the manufacturer, and always re-torque after a few heat cycles.

I used the Felpro from Rockauto fixed all the oil leaking problems I snapped 3 of the bolts trying to take them off. So I got ticked off having to stay there with a needle nose going in circles, went to Lowe's got them measured running grade 8 all along never going to brake them again. Whatever you do don't over torque them you will destroy the gasket by making it warp.

I almost forgot, don't forget the never-seize, but if you're using a rubber gasket, try to get as little on the rubber as possible.

Why is it so bad to use a little Silicone when putting the gasket in? And also, I rounded/snapped one of the bolts off near the front of the cover and haven't had time to drill it out, think I'll be alright for a little while with one missing??
