Vacuum shift motor/actuator
I got some good advice from you folks regarding carb. 4 banger engine upgrades, thanks. I see another prob. with my recent acquisition; the front drive vacuum actuator doesn't work and the vacuum lines look like a source of reoccurring headache, is there a good fix for this? I like to be able to disengage the front axle. What do you do to fix this apparent engineering fiasco. Thanks for your input.

most of us with the vacuum disconnect axles will go with a posi-lok cable system.

if you go this route, i suggest upgrading the shift fork also.

You pretty much have 3 ways to go on this subject.
1.) Replace the vacuum shift motor and fix the vacuum leaks.
2.) Buy one those GROSELY overpriced cable Posi-Lockers.
3.) Or....do what I did. Build your own front axle cable locker at a fraction of the price.
If you're interested, I put a write up in the XJ Write Ups, section. Describing in detail with pictures how I built my Home brew front axle cable locker for my XJ.

Just looked at the posi lock site, man that stuff is expensive.
Sorta confusing too, how many of those parts do you need?
Not really able to afford now cause too many maint things needed on my jeep anyways.
I like to see the writeup Buck!

I think this is the write up buck was talking about: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/homebrew-cable-operated-axle-lock-8037/
It isn't in the XJ write up section but probably should be.

I'm planning on replacing my Stock 89 XJ axles with a set from a 2004 TJ that I took from my TJ. It's a low pinion D30, but it's running 4.56 gear, allow shafts, and TruTrac lockers. I will have the vaccum system avail, if interested.
Not sure when I am going to get to this though.
