Default Brakes and Paint

Hey guys, 2 questions. 1. I took my 88 XJ in for inspection and they told me that all my braking power is at the front and nothing on the back 2 wheels. Any idea what to check to see why this is happening? Also I wanna get a semi nice paint job as my XJ has a rattle can crap job on it now. Any ideas or ball park what it was cost to have it done and make it "Nice"? Thanks in Advance y'all. BTW I'm in Provo UT area if anybody knows a cheap painter.

A good paint job would be ~$1500 ball park and i personally hate maaco cause their paint repair flaked off after 1 winter (within 6 months total) on my camaro.

Theres 2 things I would look at as far as the brakes. 1) pull the rear brakes apart and see whats going on there. 2) try to bleed the rear brake, it could be that the brake master is bad cause the front and rear systems are separate.

If you dont know what you are looking for or doing, suck up the cost and take it to someone that does know. The last thing you want to do is kill someone or yourself because your brakes dont work. Bro, there is a HUGE Jeep community in Utah, ask around and Im sure someone can help you out/ show you what to do. Some shops might even let you do some of the work with their guidance. I spent 4.5 years there and thats all anyone talks about there....their Jeeps...hahahaha.

A simple brake check will tell you alot. Look to see if there is brake pad material, wet inside of the drums and if the adjuster at the bottom freely moves. If all that checks out then i would look at the master

I'll ask around and see if I can't find somebody that knows brakes. I have looked at them before but like I said I didn't want to take anything off and mess something up.... Here in Provo I haven't been able to find to many Jeepers willing to lend a hand, maybe I'm looking in the wrong spots haha

What about a basic maybe red or flat black? I know some colors cost more than others.

Quality of a paint job is all in the prep. You can make rattle can pain jobs look good if you work hard enough at it.

I don't have time to look it up right now, but do a Google search for the "$90 paint job", or "Rustoleum Paint Job".

Basically, dude took this old Corvair, did the prep work, and used a paint roller to apply Rustoleum to it. Wet sanded the crap out of it to smooth it down, then polished it. Finished result was amazing. A lot of work, but probably worth it in the end.
