Vacuum disconnect eliminator question
So I just bought a Dana 30 off a 91 with the vacuum disconnect eliminator kit cuz it has 4.56 gears and chromoly axle shafts and for $100 I couldn't pass it up. However now I am worried. I was planning on taking out the chromoly axle shaft's and the gears and stick it in my 93 Dana 30. Since the 91 Dana 30 has the eliminator kit will the axle shafts work on my non-disconnect Dana 30?I heard the vacuum disconnect axle shafts are different then the non-disconnect axle shafts, but since the 91 D30 has the eliminator kit should the axle shafts work on my 93... Thanks

So until I take it apart I should assume the Dana30 off the 91 has the solid axle shafts? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not familiar with vacuum disconnect setup.

well, AFAIK it depends on what kind of eliminator it is..
Theres one way to do it where you just lock the vaccum disconnect into the "locked" position. With this setup you would have two shafts on the Vaccum disconnect side.
Another way actually gets rid of the Vaccum disconnect setup completely, and you have a sold shaft on that side.
So I would say you wont know until you pull them out, unless you know what kind of "eliminator" setup it has...

Well what he showed me was this long rubber tube thing coming from the vacuum with a red cap at the end of it. He said that was the eliminator kit.... That's the only way I can describe it... Kinda sad but I don't know much about vacuum disconnects.

oh crap, I just check the red cap thing and it is a pull lever.... Does this mean I cant use the shafts on my non disconnect? If so what are the cons if I swapped the 91 dana 30 disconnect under my 93... this sucks. I thought I got a good deal....

It wasn't a bad deal at all. The po apparently installed Posi Lok system to get rid of the failure prone vacuum lines. You can swap the entire axle assembly into your 93 with the Posi Lok and be fine. You can even do the one piece axle shaft conversion if you want. But like 4.3L XJ said it would be easier in the long run to swap the whole thing in.

I thought I couldn't swap it in because the shafts are different. Isn't the vacuum A le shafts two piece's or something and non disconnect is one. Come to think of it I'm not even sure if what I'm thinking is right. I have read about the difference in axle shafts before but I guess now I don't even know what I have. Argh why do jeeps always get the best of me...

When I posted last week my plan was to gut the 91 Dana 30 by taking the axle shafts and gearing out and sticking it in my 93 Dana that I have under my rig. What's the cable conversion that you were talking about?
