V8 grand cherokee springs

so i got my v8 grand cherokee springs yesterday and i also have a set of 95 cherokee springs and looking at them side by side i see no difference should i be able to?

Probably not. I don't know this for fact, but I would assume you get the lift out of them because the spring rate is greater. They were made for a vehicle with a big v8 in the front, and you are putting them on a lightweight XJ with an I6. Therefore, the front end doesn't sit as low, thus giving you the 1.5-2" of lift they are stated to give.

As I said, I haven't done this, but this would stand to reason.

i just went out and looked at my v8 zj and some stock xj coils i have laying around. the v8 springs are a little larger in diameter(the actual metal)

gpXJ 10-24-2009 08:41 AM

Yeah, that would make sense too. Probably what gives them the higher spring rate. I've been tossing the idea back and forth of whether to shop the JY's and pick up some ZJ coils and an s10 or Dakota rear leaf set and doing a bastard lift...or just waiting until I can free up the cash for a full lift kit....decisions decisions..

xjbones 10-24-2009 08:50 AM

great thing about the jy zj coil/ bastard pack lift is, it will not sag over time.....already broke in!!

Very true...my rear leafs are flat anyways (which apparently I should be proud of, some peoples' seem to arch the wrong way).....

So in actuality, what is the difference between running a 3" lift coil, and using the ZJ coil and a coil spacer. I know blocks in the rear suck....but coil spacers are just fine? Not much difference except more parts?

Hey I was thinking about puttin the V8 Grand cherokee springs in my XJ and was wondering how the ride quality was? Cause right know i have spacers in the front and an or fab heavy a$$ front bumper and the front end sits a little low so i need a little boost. Also what years can i use for the V8 springs?
