Undercarriage concerns
Trying to put some love back into my new XJ and had some concerns about things I saw underneath. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
#1 - Weird spray? I imagine it's for rust but not sure.
#2 - Unknown, and corroded to hell, objects, rear left and right sides
#3 - What is inside the coil springs?
Thanks a million in advance.

factory undercoating and both are bumpstops.
the rubber bumpstops turn to dust after a while, so you can run without them for a while but ideally you'd want to replace them with new ones. if you don't have a lift or anything just go with oem replacement

Thanks a bunch for your reply. Planning on getting a 3inch lift soon...could I just remove the bumpstops and forget about them or does a lift require them?

From my experience it depends... Do you like rubbing? Do you wish to keep your fenders intact? I am running 2" 31s and no bump stops on my zj but when I flex if my wheels arent straight I catch the fender lip. Planning on doing some snip and tuck on it to prevent that. But for me its no biggie. But when driving on the road I have no issues without them. Just my 2 pennies worth.

That undercarriage looks terrible - I will take the hit and buy it from you?
Seriously, the undercarriage looks to be in great shape. The items you mention are easy and cheap to replace.
If you want to keep checking for rust, look under the driver's and passenger sides. Also inspect the leaf spring brackets at the back. They are prone to rust.

A bump stop limits the upward travel of the suspension. With out them your tires will slam in to the fender/inter fender and probably get chewed up.With a lift you need longer bump stops to make up for the lift.

There it is.
Get the appropriate bump stops for your lift. Until then, you can ignore them.
