I did a write up in the Tech Write-up section on re-packing bearings....but that one is too far gone.

Yes, but you'll have to have the refrigerant recovered first.

For the average guy it's easier to simply replace the compressor and clutch with either JY or reman unit.

Most likely it's the A/C bearing, but you might also want to check your water pump. I had the same noise and i had the refrigerant recovered and the system disconnected and the noise was still there. I looked at my water pump pulley and it was warped and grinding on the housing and caused the bearing to start knocking

Well the water pump is like a year old so it should be okay the a/c was kinda f-uped before i added water to the equation. It use to make this puring noise idk what it was but only occurred with the a/c and heat on

Could be an idler pulley. I've had that happen twice on my car. First time it was the S/C idler pulley and when it failed it sent the serp belt into the accessorie belt destroying everything.

The second time I caught it early enough on the acc. belt and swapped it before it caused any issues.

Long screw driver or long extension works good as well. Plus it doesn't flex when your working around the belts. So it won't get snagged or anything.
