A "twist" to the blower resistor issues

OK,,

When I got my 96 XJ everything worked fine.
THEN,,,
The same ole problem.
First when I replaced the idiot light dash cluster to a full gauge cluster I noticed the plastic connector for the blower motor switch was all brittle and heat destroyed. I took care of that.

Then,,,, a few weeks later when I needed the heater blower I only had the "high" setting.
I lived with it for all winter like that,, no problem as I like it on high in the winter.

But now,,,, I just want to fix it right. So today I took the resistor out and the first pic shows that the "coils" are fine.

The second pic shows something interesting,,, that one of the "spades" on the resistor is missing. OK,, I can get a new one right?

NOW THE TWIST,,,,, The connection the loom leading to the resistor looks like this,,,Yea,,, only 4 holes for 4 "spades".

So I guess when I get to the parts store I just have em get me one for my year?
Does anyone's else resistor look like this?

Kinda confused coz the one with the broken spade fits on the plug,,, but there is NOT a place for the "missing" spade on the resistor.

Suggestions??

:dunno:

Here'a print of the '94 AC/Heater Circuit showing the blower and the resistor block. I don't have '96 prints but I think this will work. Note that there are only 4 taps used and the connector looks the same as yours. You may want to check the wire colors you have against the diagram.

The part number on your resistor block is the same as the parts catalog.

just replaced this on my 92 two days ago.... looked just like that... 4 spades, and 4 female slots... I'm no pro, just thought I would add my 2 cents since I just did this...

So I should just get a new one I guess and see where it goes from there.

I just find it interesting tho,,, about the connector plug only having slots for 4 VS the actual part having 5 places (spades" for connection..

:dunno:

Yeah, not sure bro... but I can tell you that when I put the new resistor in, I had all fan speeds... but I am having to go through my entire HVAC system part-by-part in order to get it up and working... like I said, not a pro, but this one part replacement did do what it was supposed to... let us know if it works for ya....
