Is the fuel pump relay operating and in good condition? I believe that too is bypassed in "start".

I would grab a multimeter and start testing the wires off the ignition switch. That sounds like ignition switch to me but I would test it still.
With the key in the on position you should get 12v+ on the blue wire and black with orange wire if this diagram is right for your car too. The info I'm going off here is for a 2000 XJ. Starter should be yellow which you know is working. Red should be 12v+ all the time. If you're getting power at the switch/wires with the ignition on then I would start checking relays. Hope that helps. |
is the ignition switch a little black box about 3 in by 2 in under the dash panel ? does anyone have a picture of it and the starter relay ???/

instead of using a fuse in place of the ballast resistor, why not just replace it with a new ceramic thing. they're only about 6 bux brand new.
that should do it. it's totally the symptom of a bad resistor. |
thats what i thought too. but i bypassed it with some wire and it still does the same thing . i am at a loss as to where to go now .just dont know these cars like i do others . help please

Is the fuel pump relay activating? Have you tried swapping it?
