turdy five in a 94? how?!
Well I was disappointed today when i went to drain and refill my rear diff on my 94 thinking that it was the 8.25 i bought that gasket and it didnt fit...taking a closer look the diff cover says dana 035...i thought that the 8.25 was standard on these years.
I'm also getting a groaning noise from the rear end when turning sharp going slow...like parking lots.. and also in reverse is this a wheel bearing possibly?

Dont think the c8.25 was even an option for '94.
And yes, sounds like wheel bearings. Try jacking up one side and spinning the wheel by hand, listen for the noise. Repeat on other side.

The 8.25 was added to the XJ otions in 91. From 91-96 they are 27 spline axle shafts. From 97-01 they are 29 spline shafts. Some late production 96 models came equipped with the 29 spline 8.25 when the factory ran out of 27 spline 8.25s. And the only way to tell the difference is to pull the shaft and count the splines.

This won't always work. Driving around your wearing more on the top of your bearing. Jack it up and spin it and your on the bottom of your bearing. Most of the time though it does work.

Groaning while turning at a slow speed may be caused by a LS rear w/no additive.
Jack up the rear (both wheels), trans in neutral, turn one wheel-opposite wheel turns same direction=limited slip, oppsite direction=no limited slip.
