hi guys, im new to this so please forgive me. i've just recently brought a '99' xj cherokee 2.5td sport. everything seems fine but i have noticed the turbo kicks in about 1400rpm is this normal, cos i've been told it should be about 2500rpm, now obviously it must be usin more fuel. is there a way to adjust this at all? if anyone could help i'd be very grateful, cheers guys

Most people are happy if they are building boost at lower rpms, as long as it holds through your higher rpm range. Also, when you say kick in, do you mean it starts to spool, or you are at full boost? As a side note, lag time varies upon every setup, and full boost is acheived differently on every setup.

Edit* remember that turbo'ed engines are designed to run on boost, ie. they have very low compression. So to answer your gas mileage question, it could be hurting you or it is running as it is designed. I know on my other car, boost can be kept minimal depending on your throttle position. I agree with the previous post, it will depend on the set up(is this a stock unit?) and throttle angle. Pretty cool though, never seen a turbo jeep here in canada!
