Default Trying to get something done. Please help.

I am trying to flush the heater core of my '91 XJ. I already have an attatchment for my garden hose and have some extra coolant on hand. My problem is that I have found the two hoses going into the firewall, however they go only a short ways before going into this connector that seems like it controls coolant flow. Then two hoses go from that to the water pump and t-stat housing. Can I just pull the two short hoses from the firewall and flush from there? If so, which hose would I spray through so I back flush the core?
