mysterious dying problem
ok, so heres the deal. I have a 93 jeep cherokee 4.0. I have been having problems with the thing dying as im going down the road. When it dies, it usually won't start untill i blast some starter fluid into it. Although sometimes it will start back up without the starter fluid. These are all of the things I have done to it in hopes of eliminating this irritable problem: New spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor bug, new throttle position sensor, new fuel pump/fuel filter, new starter. It still does it occasionally but it is completely random. Somedays it starts and runs fine, but every now and again it just shuts off at any given moment, whether the engine is hot or cold. Could someone please help me with this issue?

Check the fuel pressure. There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail. Hook a fuel pressure gauge up to it and see what you get. If it stops again you need that reading. If it is low (below 30) then change the regulator and make sure that you have a good vacuum line going to it as well. Then your pressure should rise to 35-40 pounds which is the normal range for the XJ. Just a suggestion as to what the problem may be.

Sounds like you are going through the exact same thing as I am,,
Changing everything that may be remotely responsible for what going on.,,*L*
Check out the throttle body sensor thread and see what they are are saying about what my problem might be, these guys are pretty friendly and helpful..
Part 2. What mine turned out to be was a fuel pump resistor and the TPS being out of adjustment.
