Trouble Codes

Hey all. I have a 1998 XJ I just changed the trans in. After installing, it blew a fuse that is in an “Open” spot, (the manual says anyway) but is actually used to control AC. We scanned the computer and got these codes;

P0700 Trans
P1491 Trans Control
P0545 O2

The thing drives and shifts normal but the AC doesn’t work. In order to try and isolate the problem, I have disconnected the AC fan, pulled the AC relay and pulled the AC and Clutch Fan fuses out of the fuse box in the engine compartment. Turned the AC dash controls off then turned on the key and POP!

So then I disconnected the trans harness thinking there’s a short in there or in one of the trans silinoids, turned the key on and POP!

can anyone offer any insight as to what I may be dealing with? Thanks.

What is that fuse labeled as powering?

In my manual it says “Open”. Not used.

Pretty odd that it's popping then. Check another manual or online, maybe that manual just has a mistake. Open spots usually have no terminals or just one, but not always. I can't imagine an open spot would have power and a shorted terminal, that seems very suspicious.

Ya, seems strange but I’ve discovered there was a change during production that the owners manual was not amended to reflect. The mechanics manual is how we determined it’s use. Today I am going to see about isolating the TCM. From there, I won’t know what to do. We printed out all the wiring diagrams so if we can’t find the issue, looks like we will be re-wiring the AC circuit.
