Transmission / transfer case removal help!!!!????
Hi, Please help solve this problem I am having!!!!
I'm almost finished prepping my 95 XJ for tranny / t-case removal. This is the first time I've attempted anything as ambitious as this and it seems to be going well, but.....
On the driver's side of the Tranny/t-case, the t-case shift linkage is connected to a rod, which acts as a pivot. The rod is held by a bracket which is attached to the floor pan, and to some thick metal cage around the transmission.
I've disconnected the shift lever for the transfer case, but I'm concerned that when I lower the tranny/t-case as one unit, it will still be connected to the metal cage around the transmission. How do I remove this?????

There are two 10 mm bolts that hold the body side of the linkage on. Remove them and the whole thing will come free enough to disengage it from the tranny.

Thank you both very much for the help.
One more question, then I'm almost finished to drop the transmission!
How do you remove the top bolt holding the transmission to the engine?
Does anyone know what size the bolt is? I bought the 10" wobbler extension, I'm just having a hard time getting the socket sized correctly.
Till next weekend.....

I'm removing my AW4 tomorrow morning so I can replace my flexplate. I've come to a bit of an impasse at the current moment.
What is the easiest way to remove this ball & socket? I would think it just "pops" off. but I can't chance doing this and it breaks. I don't have any spare part sitting by...so I want to double check with the forum.
And for disco'ing the T-case linkage system, it looks like I need to remove from two spots. The tranny and the TC.
I figure this bolt should be pretty easy to get to and remove, from the TC.
But what about the AW4? The only way I see it is that I would need to remove the following 3 bolts, the top two look to be a b*$#h to remove. Is this the only way to go about disco'ing the shifter linkages when dropping the tranny?

Always loosen/remove those pesky top bolts first.

Well for those who happen to find this thread, the TV cable "ball & socket" does pop apart after applying pressure from all directions.
I also found that once the tranny is disconnected, lowering it will put some pressure on the shaft that runs between the tranny and body mount.
Below are pictures of what the tranny looks like after disconnecting from the TC lever. The shaft simply popped out once I started lowering the transmission from the bracket on the body.
I found that one of the E14 bolts was looser than finger tighey, and the other was completely missing. Once of the 17mm bell housing bolts was also missing. Prob why my flexplate took a crap.
