Default Transmission Leak

98 4.0 AW4

Really only noticeable during city driving when the jeep gets very warm. It leaks onto the exhaust pipe and smokes pretty good. I haven't gotten a good chance to really get under there but knowing the location, any idea what the culprit would be?

First things I would check are the fluid lines. It could be a leaking joint or a corroded or ruptured line. The source may be in a different area than where it collects and drips. Clean them off completely and then reinspect after driving.

my xfer case output shaft seal was leaking. the spinning parts threw atf onto the exhaust. the seal didn't function properly in the first place because the vent on the xfer case was clogged with dirt and grime.

just a possibility. the leak was evident once I got under the jeep.
